Don’t Cut Corners! These Scaffold Safety Rules Prevent Collapse & Falling Disasters
Jul 10, 2026| Basis for Formulation of Design Documents
All design and construction plans for attached lifting scaffolds must strictly refer to the two following national industrial and mandatory codes to guarantee compliance:
Technical Code for Safety of Construction Tool-type Scaffolds (JGJ 202-2010)
General Code for Construction Scaffolds (GB 55023-2022)
Structural Form Requirements for Attached Lifting Scaffolds
The vertical main frames and horizontal support trusses shall adopt truss or rigid frame structural forms.
Connections between structural members shall be implemented via welding or bolt fastening.
Horizontal support trusses need to be arranged on both the inner and outer sides of the scaffold assembly.
Both inner and outer upright tubes must be mounted on the nodal points of horizontal support trusses to optimize force transmission performance.

Specification Requirements for Safety Device Installation
Lifting working condition: The minimum gap between the uppermost and lowermost guide members shall not be less than 2.8 m, or one quarter of the overall platform height (whichever value is stricter);
Static in-use working condition: The minimum spacing between the top and bottom guide members shall be no smaller than 5.6 m, or half of the platform height;
The clearance gap between anti-tipping components and matching guide rails shall remain below 5 mm.
No less than one independent anti-fall device shall be allocated for each machine position of the scaffold.
Anti-fall mechanisms need to operate reliably both during lifting movements and stationary service periods.
Fully automatic mechanical anti-fall designs are mandatory; reusable assemblies that require manual reassembly after every single lifting operation are prohibited.
Strict braking distance thresholds apply to two mainstream anti-fall types:
Clamping anti-fall devices: maximum permitted braking distance ≤ 80 mm;
Resistance-blocking anti-fall devices: maximum permitted braking distance ≤ 150 mm;
For scaffolds with only two machine positions, a synchronous control mechanism that caps horizontal elevation discrepancies between the two positions is acceptable.
Where multiple machine positions exist, load-limiting synchronous control systems are required to prevent overload and uneven overloading across the protective platform.
The whole control platform shall come with built-in alarm and automatic shutdown triggers responding to overload as well as load loss faults.
Elevation deviation control thresholds: height differences between adjacent machine positions cannot exceed 15 mm, and the maximum overall height deviation of the entire scaffold must stay within 50 mm.

Structural Specifications for Attachment Supports
One dedicated wall-attached support shall be arranged on every floor covered by the vertical main frame.
When space truss main frames are utilized, lifting suspension structures and anti-fall suspension structures have to be mounted on two separate attachment supports respectively.
Attachment supports fitted for lifting stages must be prefabricated with integrated anti-fall, anti-tipping and guiding structural features.
Mandatory Rules for Stop-layer Locking Devices
Stop-layer devices are fixed onto attachment supports and should be factory-manufactured standardized structural components with custom design certification.
It is advisable to equip these locking devices with fine height adjustment fittings to adapt to slight on-site construction tolerances.
Field-made makeshift locks fabricated out of fasteners, steel wire ropes or other reusable temporary construction materials are strictly forbidden.
Solid connections between stop-layer hardware and attachment supports are required, alongside sufficient structural rigidity and load-bearing strength.
Detailed Requirements for Protective Structures
Intentional cuts and openings on scaffold frames are unavoidable when the scaffold bypasses tower cranes, construction hoists and standalone material platforms.
Guardrails and continuous sealed enclosures must be added around all discontinuities on the scaffold frame.
Additional protective configurations at openings shall effectively eliminate falling hazards for construction workers and loose construction materials.
